Breast Lift vs Breast Reduction

Deciding which procedure is the best option for you can be challenging. Our Board Certified Plastic Surgeons will help you choose the best option to achieve the look you desire!

1. What is the difference between Breast Lift and Breast Reduction?

One of the most popular subjects for discussion in breast surgeries is the difference between Breast Reduction and Breast Lift procedures. Breast Reduction has to do with the overall size of the breasts whereas Breast Lift surgery corrects the shape and nipple positioning. A typical candidate for Breast Reduction is a female with excess breast tissue. Common complaints in women with large breasts include back, neck, and shoulder pain which restricts physical activity and reduces the quality of life. Whereas Breast Lift patients are generally concerned with the loss of volume and sagging of the breasts.

2. Do I need to combine Breast Reduction and Breast Lift?

Breast Reduction surgery typically includes a Breast Lift due to the technique used to shape the breast while removing excess tissue and fat. The Breast Lift, on the other hand, does not involve size reduction.

3. Do I need to get implants as well?

Depending on the look you aim to achieve, your surgeon may recommend combining a Breast Augmentation with a Breast Lift and/or Breast Reduction.

4. What are the risks?

Every cosmetic surgery involves certain risks. Both Breast Reduction and Breast Lift are considered to be outpatient procedures with minimal risks. Potential dangers are the same as for any other major surgery – infection, reaction to anesthesia, bleeding, bruising, etc.

5. How long do results last?

The results of Breast Reduction are permanent, however, your breasts can enlarge due to pregnancy and breastfeeding, and/or weight gain. The results of Breast Lift typically last 10-15 years or longer.

6. How big is the scar?

The scar depends on the technique chosen by the plastic surgeon. The scaring typically occurs around the areolas, vertically down the lower section of the breast, and wrapping the lower part of the breast for Breast Reduction (t-shape or “anchor”).

7. How much does it cost?

We offer Breast Reduction starting at $2,999 and Breast Lift starting at $1,999, not including anesthesia and surgeon’s fees.
