Vaser Liposuction

Have you been wanting to slim your waistline, flatten your tummy, or finally get that ab definition, but liposuction might seem a little daunting? Welcome Vaser Liposuction into the picture. This cutting-edge technology uses ultrasound-assisted liposuction for precise fat removal with less invasive techniques.

Vaser Liposuction uses vibration amplification of sound energy at resonance (VASER) to separate the fat cells from the tissue in the unwanted areas in a gentler way than the traditional removal which effectively scrapes it from the skin tissue. After the sound vibrations help to free the unwanted fat from the specifically targeted areas before being permanently removed through a gentle suction process.

Because of the nature of this process which frees the cells through the vibrations, the effects on the surrounding tissue, including muscles, and the skin cells are far less affected than during traditional liposuction procedures. This means there are many benefits including: shortened procedure time, less swelling, less bruising, and faster results within as little as one week.

The Vaser Liposuction Process

Consult

Your initial consultation will be to determine your candidacy based off the desired targeted areas and your medical history. Please expect to provide any and all relevant information including a list of all current medications, allergies, and any previous surgeries. After approval by your surgeon, you will undergo an extensive physical exam and blood tests before your surgeon takes photographs to help plan your Vaser Liposuction procedure. Prior to your procedure, you will be given important instructions to prepare for the procedure, including cautions about taking certain medications, alcohol and food consumption, as well as specific hygienic protocols like using antibacterial soap.

Procedure

Depending on your procedure, it will either begin with all designated areas being numbed with local anesthetic, or general anesthesia will be administered. Your surgeon will then make minimal small, strategically placed incisions to insert the closed system cannulas, which are small tubes. The Vaser ultrasound-assisted device is then inserted to break up the fat cells. After this, a hollow tube, called a cannula, is inserted to remove the fat deposits. Doing this, the surgeon can create your desired sculpted abdomen or abdominal contours by leaving existing fat cells in targeted areas for the appearance of muscles or further definition. At the completion of this process, the surgeon will suture the skin at the incision points back together, then apply a bandage or surgical garment for healing and sterilization. The process generally takes 2 hours, depending on the areas targeted.

Recovery

Due to the more gentle nature of the Vaser Liposuction process, and with your surgeon targeting designated areas during the procedure, it is a vastly less invasive recovery process than other cosmetic procedures. Most patients need one to two weeks of recovery time depending on the area of the procedure. Some initial swelling and bruising can occur for 2-4 weeks, when swelling goes down and results are truly visible. Some see results as soon as one-week post-surgery. Results may continue to develop during the first year.

Post Procedure

Following the first week to two weeks of initially recovery time, try to avoid strenuous activity to the area of the procedure for six weeks. Follow-up office visits occur 1-day post-operation, then 1 week and 1 month after the procedure. Any further appointment would be advised by your surgeon.

Most people with good skin elasticity are eligible.

Liposuction procedures are generally done using a saline solution flush into the designated area and then a vacuum suction that removes the fat cells from the tissue, this strips the fat from these areas. The Vaser process uses ultrasound waves that reverberate at high speeds to break the fat cells off of the tissue, allowing a gentler process of fat removal than traditional liposuction. The less-invasive nature of the fat cell removal allows for less swelling and bruising, which also means less pain or discomfort and quicker results.

The fat cells that are destroyed and removed are permanent. However, just like traditional liposuction, it is not a weight-loss solution. Any fat cells that are created post-procedure will not be affected by the procedure.

Depending on the area of the procedure, local or general anesthesia may be provided during the procedure. The anesthesia will be determined between the patient, anesthesiologist, and surgeon. The South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery only administers general anesthesia by a professional M.D. Anesthesiologist.

Yes, a week or two of recovery is required, please refer to our procedures section for recovery details.

Due to Vaser Liposuction being a gentler procedure for fat removal, results can be seen as little as one week post-procedure.
