    The Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty) Process

    Consult

During your initial visit for your Tummy Tuck consultation, expect to provide your complete medical history, including all your medications, allergies, and previous surgeries. You’ll also undergo an extensive physical exam and blood tests before your surgeon takes photographs to aid in planning and performing your Tummy Tuck. Finally, you’ll receive essential instructions to prepare for treatment as well as a realistic explanation of the results you can expect to achieve.

    Procedure

During a Tummy Tuck your surgeon will make an incision between the pubic hairline and the belly button. Next, the abdominal skin will be lifted to repair weakened abdominal muscles and excess skin will be removed. The abdominal skin is then repositioned and stitched back together.

    Recovery

After you Tummy Tuck surgery, you will experience some discomfort once your anesthesia wears off. Our goal is to keep you as comfortable as possible. So, your Tummy Tuck surgeon will provide you with medication to mitigate any pain and soreness. You may also experience some abdominal swelling, which usually subsides after the first week. However, swelling in the lower abdomen may remain slightly longer. After one week, you will visit your doctor to have your stitches removed.

    Post Surgery

Most people can resume normal activities within two weeks of the Tummy Tuck procedure but must refrain from strenuous physical activity and exercise six to eight weeks following surgery. It is also recommended that you abstain from smoking for at least the first two weeks after surgery.

Tummy Tuck surgery is performed as an outpatient surgery to remove excess skin and fat around the abdominal region. Generally, your surgeon will lift and re-position abdominal skin around your belly button to repair weakened abdominal muscles to achieve a flatter, firmer, more toned abdomen and remove stretch marks.

You may be a good candidate for an Abdominoplasty if you:

    • Are in overall good health
    • Have excess stomach skin due to weight fluctuations, pregnancy, aging or heredity
    • Have bad posture and back problems caused by weak stomach muscles
    • Are NOT planning on getting pregnant in the future
    • Are NOT planning to lose a significant amount of weight
    • Are NOT using the tummy tuck surgery as an alternative to weight-loss surgery

Your initial visit with your surgeon will help you prepare for your procedure and get an idea of what to expect during your Tummy Tuck recovery. Your surgeon will also perform a complete physical examination, take blood tests, and take photos of your treatment area during the consultation. Feel free to talk to your doctor about the exact look you are hoping to achieve and any questions you have about your procedure.

Operating time is typically between two to three hours but, it will depend upon the complexity of your surgery.

Our professional M.D. Anesthesiologist always administers general anesthesia for all surgical procedures.
