Define your core and confidence with ab etching surgery in Fort Lauderdale

Abdominal etching is an advanced body contouring procedure ideal for patients who are close to their goal weight but want to achieve and enhance a more toned abdomen. This type of procedure helps patients reveal the work they have already done in the gym by removing excess fat around the abdominal muscles.

Our expert surgeons, Dr. Robert Cucin and Dr. Brandon Elnekaveh, use high-definition liposuction techniques to sculpt the abdomen with precision, highlighting the vertical and horizontal lines of the rectus muscles. The result? A more athletic appearance.

Whether you’re looking to achieve a defined six-pack or a more subtle contouring, our board-certified surgeons in Fort Lauderdale are committed to creating a surgical plan tailored to your physique, lifestyle, anatomy, and aesthetic goals, resulting in natural-looking outcomes.

Your body, your goals — Personalized ab etching procedures

At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, we treat many patients with different aesthetic goals and lifestyles. This is why our team is committed to creating a personalised ab-etching procedure in Fort Lauderdale to enhance their natural muscle tone that fits your body, proportions, and vision.

Our expert surgeons use advanced high-definition liposuction techniques to remove excess fat with precision and sculpt around the abdominal muscle wall, delivering a result that looks leaner and more defined, complementing your overall physique without overcorrecting.

This type of cosmetic procedure is highly popular among male patients; however, women can also benefit from this type of precise body contouring enhancement. The ideal patient for an abdominal etching is already active, but struggling with areas like the lower abdomen, waist or inner thighs, with excess fat.

Ab etching surgery at the South Florida Center starts at $3,999 (anaesthesia and surgeon fees not included). Your final personalised quote will be provided by your coordinator based on your final surgery plan and whether you’re combining other procedures like liposuction 360 or gynecomastia surgery

The South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery believes that each cosmetic procedure should feel accessible. This is why your consultant will provide information regarding our flexible financing options through trusted third-party providers. Our staff is committed to supporting you, so you can make informed and confident decisions.

Where will my ab etching incisions be placed?

Ab-etching is an advanced high-precision liposculpture procedure that enhances the natural contours of your abdominal muscles by removing small fat pockets around specific areas (especially between the abs)

Our expert plastic surgeons use small and highly discreet incisions that are typically around 3-5 mm in length. These incisions are placed in the natural skin folds to minimise any type of scar visibility. The placement usually consists of areas like the belly button, waistband, or near the groin.

Here’s how the process works
injection of solution

Injection of solution

A tumescent solution is first injected to reduce bleeding and make fat removal smoother.

cannula insertion

Cannula insertion

Using high-definition liposuction, a small cannula is inserted through the tiny incisions to precisely remove fat in a way that outlines the natural muscle borders (typically the rectus abdominis and obliques).

abs contouring

Abs contouring

In some cases, additional contouring is done around the flanks or lower abdomen to refine the entire midsection and amplify definition.

The focus for an abdominal etching is to enhance the natural body’s muscle tone, and not achieve a “fake six-pack” result. This type of procedure is ideal for those who are looking to refine what’s already there. During your virtual consultation, your surgeon will create a personalised surgical plan to ensure the most natural-looking results that still feel like you.

What’s the difference between traditional liposuction and ab etching?

Understanding the main differences between traditional liposuction and Ab etching is key to making an informed decision based on your needs and goals. While both procedures help by removing excess fat and sculpting the natural curves of your body, ab etching is a high-precision and detailed technique to create visible muscle definition around the abdomen.

Traditional Liposuction

Ab Etching (high-definition liposuction)

Customize your ab etching benefits

Enhance muscle definition

Ab etching is the ideal procedure to help patients enhance their natural abdominal muscles, achieving a more toned, defined, and athletic core that can be difficult to achieve with exercise alone.

Refine your physique

Ab etching is often combined with liposuction around the waistline, which helps to flatten your midsenction and accentuates your V-Line. This enhances your natural curves and fits your body’s anatomy and structure.

Make workouts and progress more visible

Many patients are at their desired weight and have a low body fat percentage; however, sometimes stubborn fat can hide your abs. This cosmetic procedure helps you get rid of these excess fat pockets giving you the definition you deserve.

Feel more confident shirtless

An ab etching procedure not only delivers a physical improvement, but it also enhances confidence, whether you’re enjoying yourself at the beach or in the mirror. A leaner, defined and stronger-looking core can help you feel more comfortable in your own skin.

Achieve long-lasting, natural-looking results

Abdominal etching is a procedure that creates long-lasting definition, especially when our patients can keep maintaining a healthy lifestyle with regular training and a balanced diet.

Surgery and recovery process

30 - 1 Day Before Surgery

You will have your initial consultation with your surgeon, where you will explore your options and create a personalised surgical plan. During this time, you will also complete necessary bloodwork, obtain clearance, review your medical history, and take before pictures.

Surgery Day

Ab etching is a procedure that is done under local or general anaesthesia. It usually takes around 1.5 to 2.5 hours, depending on the amount of fat removed and if you’re pairing your procedure with another technique. This is an outpatient procedure where you’ll be able to go back home the same day, wearing a compression garment to support healing and minimize swelling and bruising.

1 Day Post Op

You will be advised to prioritise rest and to limit movement. Soreness, bruising, and swelling are normal. You must continue wearing your compression garment to promote and support your new contour.

1 Week Post Op

You will come back to our office one week after your surgery. During your one-week post op appointment, your surgeon will monitor your incision areas and check that your recovery is progressing smoothly. Many patients feel more comfortable with light movement. It is important to avoid any type of strenuous activity at this stage and continue to wear your compression garments.

1 Month Post Op

At this stage, many patients can return to normal daily activities and are now clear to incorporate low-impact exercise. Swelling will start to go down, starting to reveal your new silhouette and contour. It is still recommended to continue wearing your compression garments to achieve optimal results.

2 - 12 Months Post Op

Any residual swelling will be gone by this stage, and your final results will be revealed. Muscle definition becomes more visible, and you’ll notice a leaner and more toned look. Most patients feel comfortable and fully healed by the 3-month mark, and the final contour is achieved around the 8-12-month mark.

Frequently asked ab etching questions

What is ab etching surgery?

Ab etching is a high-definition liposculpture procedure that helps to enhance the natural contour of your abdominal muscles. The surgeon selects strategic areas around the abs to selectively remove fat pockets to create a toned and athletic appearance. The goal is to enhance and highlight the work that you’ve put in and enhance your natural structure.

Ideal candidates for abdominal etching are those who are in good health, are at their desired weight, and have a lower body fat percentage. You must have good muscle development around the abdomen, but struggle to get rid of stubborn fat around areas like the lower abdomen and waist. This is not a weight-loss procedure, and we make sure that the patient also has good skin elasticity.

Ab etching differs from traditional liposuction because it is a technique that focuses on sculpting and defining the abdominal muscles. Traditional liposuction removes fat volume around certain areas. Abdominal etching requires precision and planning to deliver a more athletic and natural contoured midsection.

The procedure typically takes 1.5 to 2.5 hours. The total length of your surgery will depend on the type of anaesthesia selected, the amount of fat removed, and whether you’re combining your abdominal etching procedure with any other technique.

Ab etching can be performed under general or local anaesthesia with sedation. The choice of anaesthesia type will depend on your final surgery plan. General anaesthesia ensures your comfort while allowing your surgeon to achieve greater precision and a smoother experience.

Swelling and bruising are expected during the first 2 weeks after your surgery. You’ll be advised to wear a compression garment, which helps with recovery and support. Light activities, like walking, to optimise circulation are always recommended. Patients tend to feel fully healed around the 2-3 month mark, and final results are revealed around the 8-12 month mark.

Yes, however, the incisions used for ab etching are extremely small and placed strategically in discreet areas such as the natural skin creases. You’ll also be provided with scar care instructions to ensure the recovery and make sure they are barely noticeable.

You will be able to see early improvements once the initial swelling begins to fade. Final results become more visible around the 3-6 month mark after surgery. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle with regular exercise and a balanced diet will help you with long-term definition.

Yes, the fat removed does not go back. However, some factors can cause the remaining fat cells to expand and grow. Your surgeon will explain that you must maintain healthy habits like exercising and a balanced diet. Ab etching is a long-term enhancement, not a fitness shortcut.

Yes, a combined approach is extremely popular to optimize results and body contouring. Many patients choose to combine their ab etching procedure with Liposuction 360 and/or gynecomastia surgery. Your surgeon will guide you on safe options that will not delay your recovery.

Pain is not felt during the actual surgery due to general anaesthesia. Mild discomfort, soreness and tightness are normal right after surgery. You will be prescribed pain medication to manage any type of discomfort, and it will gradually improve over the first week.

Initial pricing for ab etching in Fort Lauderdale starts at $3,999 (anaesthesia and surgeon fee not included). Your coordinator will provide you with your final personalised quote once your surgical plan is completed. Final price is determined on the amount of areas treated, fat removed and whether other areas or procedures are included.

Yes, this high-precision liposculpture technique delivers natural results without looking overdone. Your plastic surgeon is committed to enhancing your natural muscle structure, achieving subtle definition that still looks like you.

Risks may include: swelling, bruising, infections, irregular contours or asymmetry. However, our care team and expert plastic surgeons create a surgical plan tailored to your unique anatomy, and you will be provided with detailed post-operative instructions. The majority of our patients heal without complications.

Absolutely. Ab etching is not limited to men and can be customized to create a softer, athletic contour for women. Female ab etching focuses on definition without harsh muscle grooves. Results are tailored to natural female anatomy. Many women choose abdominal etching to enhance fitness results.

Ab etching focuses primarily on sculpting the abdominal muscles, while high-definition liposuction treats multiple areas to enhance overall muscular definition. High-def lipo may include the chest, arms, and flanks in addition to the abdomen. Ab etching is often a component of high-definition body contouring. Your goals determine which approach is best.

You don’t need perfectly visible abs, but you should have underlying muscle development. Ab etching enhances what’s already there rather than creating muscle definition from scratch. Patients without muscle tone may be better candidates for traditional liposuction or lifestyle changes first. Muscle presence is key.

Significant weight gain can soften definition and reduce visibility of ab etching results. However, because fat cells are permanently removed, changes tend to be more gradual and evenly distributed. Maintaining a stable weight helps preserve long-term outcomes. Healthy habits make a major difference.

Ab etching does not tighten muscles or repair muscle separation. Its purpose is fat sculpting, not muscle correction. If muscle laxity or diastasis recti is present, a tummy tuck may be more appropriate. Your surgeon will assess core structure during consultation.

Ab etching is best suited for patients with good skin elasticity. If loose or sagging skin is present, liposuction alone may not deliver optimal results. In these cases, your surgeon may recommend combining ab etching with a tummy tuck or skin-tightening treatment. A consultation with cosmetic surgeons in Fort Lauderdale helps determine the right approach.
