During your consultation, your surgeon will evaluate your concerns and goals. Breast reduction surgery consists of the removal of excess skin to reshape and lift the breasts. The incision type is key to providing the most precise result while prioritizing discreet scars.
Each incision is carefully chosen based on your unique structure, skin elasticity, the amount of skin to be removed, your desired breast size, and your overall aesthetic goals. Our expert plastic surgeons focus on delivering symmetrical and proportional results while minimizing the scar area.
Made around the areola and vertically down to the breast fold. This is one of the most commonly used techniques, offering effective reshaping for moderate reductions with minimal scarring.
Made around the areola, vertically down to the breast fold, and horizontally along the crease. This option allows for the most comprehensive tissue removal and reshaping, typically used in more significant reductions.
A circular incision around the areola only. This approach is generally used for minor reductions and lifts, where minimal tissue needs to be removed.
With excess breast skin, women can often experience significant strain on their spine and shoulders. Removing and reshaping your breasts can ease the tension, and many patients find relief from daily discomfort.
Naturally large breasts can limit movement and compromise your posture over time. By lightening the chest, breast reductions help women to stand taller and obtain better daily mobility in physical activities.
Excess skin causes constant friction beneath the breast fold, which can cause irritation, chafing, trap sweat, and even lead to skin infections. Breast reduction helps by improving hygiene and reducing the risk of skin issues when the excess skin is removed.
Moving your body when exercising can feel limited and uncomfortable. From lifting weights, yoga, to even running daily errands, a breast reduction can help you move freely, or reduce the need for restrictive bras.
Patients can expand their wardrobe after a breast reduction surgery. Women now feel more comfortable wearing certain clothing, and even underwear starts to feel more comfortable.
Breast reduction is not only about aesthetics and the physical part; many patients finally feel comfortable in their own skin. Reducing breast size can restore body confidence for many women.

30 - 1 Day Before Surgery
You’ll meet with your surgeon to finalize details from your surgical plan. Our pre-operative team will ensure that you complete your bloodwork, obtain medical clearance as needed, and take before pictures to get you ready for surgery day.
Surgery Day
Breast reduction takes around 2-3 hours, and it is performed under general anesthesia. This is an outpatient procedure, and you’ll be able to return home the same day wearing a supportive surgical bra to support your new contour.
1 Day Post Op
Rest and limited movement are your priorities for the first 24-72 hours. Swelling, soreness, and tightness around the area are expected. You must continue wearing your post-op surgical bra to reduce swelling, improve circulation, and support your new shape.
1 Week Post Op
You’ll come back into our office one week after your surgery day for your post-op appointment, where your surgeon will monitor the incision areas and the progress of your recovery. You will feel more comfortable with movement, but activities like lifting or stretching should still be avoided.
1 Month Post Op
Many patients feel comfortable and are now cleared to return to light activities and low-impact exercise. Swelling will continue to subside, and your surgeon will advise you to continue wearing your post-op surgical bra.
2-12 Months Post Op
Patients are now cleared to return to their normal activities and lifestyle, incision and residual swelling continue to fade. Most patients feel fully recovered around the 3-6 month mark and can see final results around the 8-12 month mark.

Awards and recognition
Breast reduction surgery, also known as a reduction mammoplasty, is a cosmetic procedure designed to reshape and lift the breast tissue by removing excess skin, fat, or tissue that is causing overly large breasts. This procedure is not only cosmetic but also improves daily activities and comfort.
Ideal candidates must be in overall good health, and be concerned about chronic back, neck, and shoulder pain, posture issues, or difficulty finding clothes that fit comfortably due to heavy and large breasts. Your surgeon, during your consultation, will evaluate your goals and anatomy.
Yes. Many patients report significant improvements right after surgery when excess skin and extra weight in their chest area are removed. Breast reduction helps to reduce spine and shoulder tension, often leading to better posture and comfortable feeling overall.
Final size will be evaluated and chosen alongside your surgeon; this all depends on your goals, skin elasticity, and the overall amount of skin that needs to be removed to achieve proportionate and balanced results that fit your anatomy.
Scarring will depend on the type of technique selected for your surgery, your needs, and the amount of correction needed. Common incisions type include: lollipop incisions or anchor incisions. Scars are permanent; however, your surgeon will place them in discreet areas and will provide you with post-operative care to ensure proper healing over time.
Patients start feeling more comfortable after the first and second week. To optimize your recovery and comfort, you’ll continue wearing a supportive post-surgical bra and should avoid any strenuous activity for about 4-6 weeks. Patients can see their final results around the 3-6 month mark, feeling lighter and revealing a more proportionate breast contour.
Yes! Combining a breast reduction with a lift is a common approach. During surgery, your breasts are reshaped and lifted when excess skin is removed, and your nipples are repositioned. Your surgeon will explain and tailor the type of lift that best fits your anatomy and structure.
Your surgeon will evaluate your surgical needs during a consultation. Some patients may require the use of drains to avoid any fluid buildup. In the case of wearing drains, they will be removed at your one-week post op.
At the South Florida Center, breast reduction surgery starts at $2,999 (excluding anesthesia and surgeon fees). Your coordinator will provide your final custom price, which varies depending on the complexity of your case and if you’re combining your surgery with any other techniques. Flexible financing may be available to make your procedure more accessible.
Yes, in some cases. Many insurance providers will cover breast reduction if it’s considered medically necessary due to symptoms like back or neck pain, skin irritation, or restricted movement. Documentation such as medical records or chiropractor notes may be required for pre-approval. Our patient coordinators can assist you with the process and verify coverage with your insurance provider.
Light activity and walking are encouraged after the first week to support circulation and healing. Strenuous exercise or activities can be resumed after the 4-6 week mark. It is important to attend your post-op appointments so your surgeon can monitor your healing progress and clear you as needed
Temporary changes in sensitivity may be experienced during the first couple of weeks after your breast reduction surgery. Permanent changes are not common, but could occur depending on the amount of excess skin removed and skin health.
Depending on your case, breastfeeding will not be affected. Keep in mind that it can change depending on the amount of glandular tissue removed. It is important to communicate your long-term plans with your surgeon to ensure the maintenance of the breast tissue function.
Breast reduction results are considered long-lasting once the excess skin is removed. It is important to maintain a stable weight and a healthy lifestyle to ensure optimal results over time. Patients get to enjoy their new contours despite the changes with natural aging, gravity, and hormonal changes.
While both surgeries enhance the shape and position of the breasts, they serve different purposes. A breast reduction removes excess breast tissue, fat, and skin to make the breasts smaller, lighter, and more proportional to your frame. A breast lift (mastopexy), on the other hand, reshapes and raises the breasts without significantly changing their size. Many patients benefit from a combination of both procedures to achieve an elevated, youthful contour that feels as good as it looks—especially if large, heavy breasts have begun to sag over time.
At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, our breast reduction surgery is performed by a team of expert plastic surgeons, including our board-certified and Harvard-trained surgeon, Dr. Brandon Elnekaveh, who is known for his precision and attention to detail, delivering optimal results that fit each patient’s anatomy and goals.
