Enlarged or asymmetrical labia can cause irritation and pain during sex. Labiaplasty reshapes the labia to remove excess tissue, reducing friction and discomfort during intercourse.
By addressing excess or uneven tissue, labiaplasty can improve physical comfort during intimacy. Many patients report feeling less self-conscious and more at ease, which directly impacts sexual satisfaction.
Excess labia tissue can cause friction during everyday activities like walking, cycling, or wearing fitted clothing. Labiaplasty removes this tissue so you can move comfortably without ongoing irritation.
Uneven or irregularly shaped labia can affect both comfort and confidence. Labiaplasty reshapes the labia minora to achieve a more symmetrical, balanced result.
Labiaplasty can improve the overall look of the vulva by creating a smoother, more proportional appearance. This is one of the most common reasons patients seek the procedure.
Beyond physical relief, labiaplasty helps patients feel more comfortable in their own bodies — whether during intimacy, exercise, or simply getting dressed. Many patients describe a meaningful boost in confidence after surgery.
Labia Minora vs. Labia Majora
Understanding what is possible with Labiaplasty is key to making sure you’re choosing the best techniques to deliver optimal results that address specific discomforts or aesthetic concerns.
The labia minora are the inner folds of tissue located inside the labia majora. Some women experience naturally elongated, asymmetrical, or stretched labia minora due to genetics, childbirth, aging, or hormonal changes.
Labia minora reduction reshapes the inner folds to remove excess tissue, relieve discomfort, and create a smoother appearance.
The labia majora are the outer lips surrounding the vaginal opening. Aging, weight loss, or genetics can cause them to appear deflated, sagging, or overly full.
Treatment options include fat grafting to restore volume, skin removal, or tightening to achieve a natural, symmetrical result.
Some patients choose to address both areas for a more complete result.
Your surgeon will evaluate your anatomy and goals to recommend the right approach — whether that’s treating one area or both.
Labiaplasty is a precision procedure that reduces and reshapes the labia minora (the inner vaginal lips). Each surgery is tailored to the patient’s anatomy and specific concerns.
During the procedure, your plastic surgeon makes a small incision along the edge of the labia minora to remove excess tissue. The remaining tissue is then carefully contoured and reshaped to create a symmetrical, natural-looking result. This technique minimizes trauma to the surrounding area while achieving a more comfortable and balanced appearance.
During your consultation, your surgeon will recommend the technique that best fits your anatomy and goals.
he outer edge of the labia minora is trimmed to reduce size and create a smooth, refined border. This is the most commonly used labiaplasty method.
A wedge-shaped section of tissue is removed from the thickest part of the labia. This technique preserves the natural border and maintains the original pigmentation and texture while reducing overall size.
Labiaplasty is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation. General anesthesia may be used depending on patient preference, comfort level, and anesthesiologist approval. Incisions are closed with dissolvable sutures to minimize visible scarring and support a smoother recovery.

30-1 Day Before Surgery
You will meet with your surgeon to discuss your concerns and goals. Our team will complete all medical clearances, bloodwork, and pre-operative photos before your surgery date.
Surgery Day
Labiaplasty takes approximately one to two hours. It is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation, though general anesthesia may be used based on patient preference and anesthesiologist approval. This is an outpatient procedure — you go home the same day with post-operative instructions and prescriptions.
1 Day Post Op
Rest is essential. Swelling, tenderness, and mild discomfort are normal. Your surgeon will recommend icing the area, maintaining proper hygiene, and wearing loose, breathable clothing. Avoid any activities that cause friction, pressure, or sweating.
1 Week Post Op
You will have a follow-up appointment to monitor healing and check incision areas. Most patients feel well enough to reduce light activities. Avoid exercise, sex, and any strenuous activity that puts pressure on the treated area.
1 Month Post Op
Swelling continues to decrease and comfort improves. Your surgeon may clear you for normal activities and low-impact exercise. Sexual activity is typically restricted until at least 4–6 weeks after surgery.
2-3 Months Post Op
Most patients see their final results by this point. Scars continue to fade and tissue is fully healed. Patients can return to all daily activities, exercise, and sexual activity without restrictions.
By following these guidelines, you’ll help ensure a smoother recovery and long-lasting results.
Incisions are placed along the natural folds of the tissue so they heal discreetly. To support scar recovery:
Compression garments are not required after labiaplasty. Your surgeon will recommend soft, supportive underwear that minimizes irritation, chafing, and sweating during the healing phase.

Rohan Policherla, MD is a plastic surgeon who specializes in aesthetic surgery.
Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure that reduces and reshapes the labia minora, which are the inner vagina lips. This procedure helps improve physical comfort, physical appearance, and any type of discomfort experienced during daily activities like exercising and sex.
Ideal patients are those who continuously experience irritation, pain, pulling, or overall discomfort related to enlarged or asymmetrical labia. Candidates for a Labiaplasty should be in overall good health and not have active infections around the vaginal area. A consultation can help you evaluate if this is the right type of procedure for you.
Our board-certified surgeon understands that Labiaplasty is a precision procedure. Sensation should not be affected in the long term; however, during the initial stage, some patients experience temporary sensitivity changes, which typically fade away once swelling subsides.
Labiaplasty usually addresses concerns around the labia minora, which are the inner vaginal lips that can cause discomfort. Labia majora address the outer lips and may involve techniques like fat grafting to restore volume or sagginess. These two techniques can be combined, and they can be discussed during your initial consultation.
Labiaplasty takes around 1-2 hours, depending on the complexity of the procedure and if there are any combined techniques. This procedure can be done under local anesthesia with sedation, or general anesthesia, depending on the patient’s comfort. We perform outpatient procedures, which means that you’ll be able to go back home.
Patients experience mild discomfort, but not pain, swelling, tenderness, and sensitivity are completely normal during the first couple of days. You will be sent home with prescribed pain medication to manage any type of discomfort. Discomfort typically decreases within the first week.
The initial stage of healing happens around the first and second week after your surgery. Patients are advised to avoid strenuous exercise, sexual activity, and tight clothing for 4-6 weeks. Full healing is achieved around 8-12 weeks post-op.
Labiaplasty incisions are placed in the natural folds of the labia; this allows the scars to be discreet. By following your post-op instructions and taking care of the incision areas, your scars will blend naturally with the surrounding tissue, becoming almost invisible.
Yes, Labiaplasty addresses high discomfort during sex due to an elongated or misshapen labia. Once these concerns are treated, it reduces friction, irritation, or pain, which makes intimacy more comfortable and enjoyable.
At the South Florida Center, labiaplasty starts at $3,198 (not including anesthesia and surgeon fees). Final pricing will be provided by your coordinator after your personalized surgical plan is finalized by your surgeon. Financing options may be available, and your consultant will walk you through the process.
Yes. Labiaplasty helps correct asymmetry of the labia. The procedure allows the surgeon to refine each side individually to achieve a more balanced and natural result.
Patients feel comfortable within 5-7 days to return to work and non-strenuous activities. Jobs that require prolonged sitting or higher physical demand may require additional time off until your surgeon clears you.
Yes! Labiaplasty results are considered permanent once the excess tissue is removed. However, factors like aging, childbirth, and significant weight fluctuations could affect your results over time. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle will help you preserve your results for longer.
Labiaplasty is a highly customized procedure; many patients choose to combine this procedure with other techniques like clitoral hood reduction, labia majora augmentation, or vaginal rejuvenation treatments to achieve a more complete result that fits their goals and addresses their concerns.
Labiaplasty can be both cosmetic and functional, depending on the patient’s concerns. Many seek the procedure for physical discomfort, irritation, or interference with daily activities. Others pursue it primarily for aesthetic reasons or confidence. Often, patients experience both functional relief and aesthetic improvement.
Yes, labiaplasty commonly helps relieve irritation caused by tight clothing, cycling, running, or sitting for long periods. Reducing excess tissue minimizes friction and pulling sensations. Many patients find everyday activities much more comfortable after healing. This is one of the most reported benefits of the procedure.
Initial improvements of labiaplasty are noticeable once swelling begins to subside, typically within a few weeks. Final results continue to refine over two to three months as tissues fully heal. Patience is important, as swelling can temporarily affect appearance. Your surgeon will monitor healing during follow-up visits.
Yes, some patients find that excess labial tissue can trap moisture and increase irritation or hygiene concerns. By reducing excess tissue, labiaplasty can make personal hygiene easier to maintain. Many patients report feeling cleaner and more comfortable during daily activities. This benefit is often overlooked but commonly appreciated after surgery.
Labiaplasty focuses on reshaping the labia, not altering the vaginal opening itself. The procedure is designed to refine external anatomy while preserving natural structure and function. When performed correctly, results appear natural and balanced. Your surgeon will customize the approach to maintain a proportionate look.
Yes, many patients choose labiaplasty after childbirth due to stretching, asymmetry, or discomfort that developed postpartum. Pregnancy and delivery can significantly impact labial tissue. Labiaplasty allows for reshaping and restoring comfort after physical changes. It is a common part of post-pregnancy body restoration.
If you experience discomfort, irritation, or self-consciousness related to your labial anatomy, labiaplasty may be worth exploring. The best way to know is through a private consultation where your goals, anatomy, and expectations are discussed. Surgery is never “one size fits all.” A personalized approach ensures the best outcome.
