The eyes are one of the first areas to show signs of aging—and for many people, that includes puffiness, drooping eyelids, or excess skin that can make you look tired, even when you’re not. Whether your goal is to look more awake, restore symmetry, or simply feel more refreshed, blepharoplasty can help you achieve a brighter appearance that still looks like you. Our expert Plastic Surgeons in Fort Lauderdale, FL are here to help.
Even subtle improvements to the upper or lower eyelids can have a powerful impact on your overall facial expression—bringing light back to your eyes and restoring balance to your features.
At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, we believe that cosmetic surgery should reflect your individual goals and natural anatomy—not a one-size-fits-all approach. That’s why every blepharoplasty procedure is thoughtfully customized to suit your unique facial structure and the refreshed appearance you’re looking to achieve.
During your consultation, you’ll work closely with your surgeon to determine the best surgical plan for your anatomy, lifestyle, and aesthetic preferences.
Depending on your goals, upper blepharoplasty can reduce heaviness and hooding on the eyelids, while lower blepharoplasty can smooth puffiness or under-eye bags.
Together or on their own, these procedures help restore a more rested, youthful appearance—subtly enhancing their overall facial presence.
Blepharoplasty at the South Florida Center starts at $1,999 (not including anesthesia or surgeon’s fees), with final cost varying based on whether you’re addressing the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both. To make your procedure more accessible, we offer flexible financing options through trusted third-party providers.
We’re here to guide you every step of the way—so you can move forward with clarity, confidence, and a result that genuinely reflects your goals.
Blepharoplasty can target the upper eyelids, lower eyelids, or both, depending on your concerns and goals. Each approach is tailored to your unique anatomy and designed to refresh your appearance with minimal, well-concealed incisions.
Upper eyelid surgery focuses on removing excess skin that causes hooding or heaviness around the eyes. The incision is placed within the natural crease of the eyelid, allowing your surgeon to remove or reposition skin and fat while keeping the scar discreet and virtually invisible when healed.
Lower eyelid surgery addresses puffiness, under-eye bags, or loose skin. Depending on your needs, there are two main techniques:
For patients seeking full eye rejuvenation, combining both upper and lower eyelid techniques offers a more comprehensive result. Your surgeon will develop a custom plan that enhances the overall balance and openness of your eyes—while keeping incisions subtle and scars well hidden.
During your consultation, we’ll walk you through which approach is best for your features and goals, and we will explain exactly how incisions are placed to ensure a smooth, natural-looking result.
Excess skin on the upper eyelids can create a heavy, tired appearance and may even interfere with vision. Upper blepharoplasty removes or repositions this skin to restore a more open, defined eyelid contour.
Fat deposits beneath the lower eyelids can create puffiness, shadows, or under-eye bags. Lower blepharoplasty addresses this by removing or repositioning fat for a smoother, more rested appearance.
Asymmetry between the eyes—whether in skin laxity, fat distribution, or eyelid position—can be corrected through targeted adjustments to create a more balanced and harmonious look.
Aging or sun exposure can cause the delicate eyelid skin to stretch or wrinkle. Blepharoplasty tightens and refines this tissue for a smoother eyelid contour that complements the rest of the face.
By reducing heaviness and softening volume irregularities, blepharoplasty helps patients appear more awake and refreshed—correcting the visual cues often associated with fatigue or aging.

Blepharoplasty typically takes 1 to 2 hours, depending on whether you’re having upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, or both. This procedure is performed under general anesthesia, unless an upper blepharoplasty is done; here you will have the option of local anesthesia. You’ll return home the same day with detailed post-operative instructions and protective eye care in place.
1 Day Post Op
You’ll need rest and limited activity. Swelling, tightness, and mild bruising are common and expected. Cold compresses and prescribed eye drops will help minimize discomfort. Some patients experience temporary blurry vision or light sensitivity.
1 Week Post Op
Your follow-up appointment will take place to monitor healing and remove any sutures if needed. Most patients feel more comfortable moving around but should still avoid bending, lifting, or anything that puts strain on the face or eyes.
1 Month Post Op
Swelling and bruising continue to improve significantly. Most patients can return to normal routines, light exercise, and wearing eye makeup again (if cleared by your surgeon). Your eyelids will begin to look smoother and more refined.
2-12 Months Post Op
Final results continue to develop as the tissues settle. Incision lines fade gradually and typically become barely noticeable. The eyelid area continues to soften and smooth out, revealing your refreshed, more rested appearance.

Blepharoplasty, also known as eyelid surgery, is a cosmetic procedure that removes or repositions excess skin, fat, and tissue from the upper and/or lower eyelids. It’s designed to correct drooping lids, puffiness, and under-eye bags that can make the eyes look tired or aged. The result is a refreshed, more youthful appearance that brightens the entire face. Depending on your needs, it can be performed for aesthetic improvement or to restore vision obstructed by sagging upper lids.
You may be a good candidate for blepharoplasty if you have sagging or hooded upper eyelids, under-eye bags, or loose skin that affects your confidence or vision. Ideal candidates are in good overall health and have realistic expectations about the results. The procedure is popular among both men and women seeking a more awake and rejuvenated look. During your consultation, your surgeon will assess your anatomy and discuss whether upper, lower, or combined eyelid surgery is best for your goals.
Upper blepharoplasty focuses on removing excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids to correct drooping or hooded lids that may cause a heavy appearance or even impair vision. Lower blepharoplasty targets puffiness, under-eye bags, and skin laxity beneath the eyes to create a smoother, firmer contour. Both procedures can be performed separately or together for full eye rejuvenation. Combining them often achieves the most balanced, refreshed results for the upper and lower face.
Blepharoplasty can significantly improve under-eye shadows that are caused by puffiness, fat pockets, or deep hollows. However, if dark circles are due to pigmentation or thin skin, additional treatments such as laser resurfacing or fillers may be recommended. Many patients notice that once puffiness is removed and volume is restored, their dark circles appear lighter and less pronounced. Your surgeon can customize a treatment plan to address both structure and skin tone for a brighter, more rested look.
Yes — if drooping upper eyelid skin is obstructing your field of vision, upper blepharoplasty can improve both function and appearance. By removing the excess tissue, patients often experience wider, clearer vision and less strain when reading or driving. The procedure is not only cosmetic but can also enhance daily comfort and safety. Many patients report that their eyes feel lighter, more open, and naturally refreshed after healing.
Eyelid surgery is typically performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your treatment plan and comfort level. Local anesthesia is often used for smaller procedures like upper blepharoplasty, while general anesthesia may be recommended for combined upper and lower surgery. Your surgeon will discuss the best option to ensure a smooth, comfortable experience. Regardless of the method, most patients find the process to be gentle and easy to recover from.
Incisions are carefully placed within the natural creases of the eyelid (for upper blepharoplasty) or just below the lash line (for lower blepharoplasty), making scars nearly invisible once healed. Over time, these fine lines fade significantly and blend into the skin’s natural texture. Your surgeon will use delicate, precise techniques to minimize any visible marks. Proper aftercare, such as keeping the area clean and protected from the sun, helps ensure scars remain discreet and minimal.
Most patients return to light activities within 7 to 10 days after eyelid surgery, once initial swelling and bruising subside. Residual swelling may continue to improve over the next few weeks, and final results become more refined as healing completes. Cold compresses, proper rest, and sleeping with your head elevated can help speed recovery. Within a few short weeks, your eyes will look brighter, smoother, and noticeably rejuvenated.
Results from eyelid surgery are long-lasting, often maintaining a more youthful eye contour for 10 years or more. While the natural aging process continues, most patients never return to their pre-surgery appearance. The skin around the eyes remains tighter and smoother, creating a lasting refreshed look. Practicing good skincare and sun protection can help extend the longevity of your results even further.
Most patients describe only mild discomfort or tightness around the eyes rather than pain. Cold compresses and prescribed medication easily manage any temporary soreness or swelling during the first few days. Because eyelid skin heals quickly, recovery tends to be much easier than expected. Many patients are pleasantly surprised by how comfortable the process feels and how quickly they return to normal routines.
You can usually return to wearing eye makeup about 2 to 3 weeks after surgery, once your incisions are fully healed and swelling has improved. It’s important to use clean brushes and gentle, hypoallergenic products to avoid irritation. During recovery, your provider may recommend avoiding waterproof formulas or heavy liners that could tug at the skin. Following your surgeon’s instructions will help your results settle beautifully while keeping your eyelids healthy.
When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, eyelid surgery is very safe and complications are rare. However, potential risks include temporary bruising, swelling, asymmetry, or mild dryness in the eyes during healing. More serious issues like infection or delayed wound healing are uncommon and can usually be avoided with proper aftercare. Your surgical team will provide detailed instructions before and after your procedure to ensure a smooth, safe recovery.
Yes — blepharoplasty is frequently combined with other rejuvenation procedures to create a harmonious, refreshed look. Many patients pair it with a brow lift, facelift, or laser skin resurfacing to address multiple signs of aging at once. These combinations can enhance balance between the upper and lower face and deliver more dramatic results. Your surgeon will customize your plan based on your facial anatomy, goals, and downtime preferences.
At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, eyelid surgery starts at $1,999 (excluding anesthesia and surgeon fees). Pricing varies based on whether you’re having upper, lower, or both eyelids treated and if additional procedures are combined. During your consultation, you’ll receive a personalized quote that reflects your goals and surgical plan. We also offer flexible financing options to make your transformation more accessible and stress-free.
Most patients can safely return to wearing contact lenses about two to three weeks after surgery, once swelling subsides and incisions are fully healed. It’s important not to insert lenses too early, as doing so can irritate the healing tissue and delay recovery. Many patients temporarily switch to glasses during this period for comfort and protection. Your surgeon will evaluate your healing progress at follow-up visits and let you know exactly when it’s safe to resume wearing contacts.
Absolutely — blepharoplasty for men is one of today’s most popular procedures for restoring a youthful, energetic appearance. The technique is tailored to preserve masculine eyelid structure and natural expression while removing puffiness or drooping skin. Male patients often choose eyelid surgery to look more alert and confident without appearing “done.” Our surgeons specialize in subtle, precise enhancements that complement each patient’s unique features and lifestyle.
When performed by an experienced plastic surgeon, blepharoplasty enhances the eyes’ appearance without changing their natural shape. The procedure focuses on lifting or smoothing the surrounding tissue to reduce heaviness and fatigue while maintaining your eye’s unique contour. You’ll look more refreshed, awake, and youthful — but still like yourself. The goal is always to refine, not redefine, your natural beauty.
