A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a highly customizable procedure designed to treat sagging skin, deep creases, and a noticeable loss of facial definition caused by gravity, sun exposure, or the natural aging process. This cosmetic face surgery reverses these effects by repostioning and tightening the facial tissues, removing excess and sagging skin, and redefining the contour in the cheeks, jawline, and neck.
Our team of expert plastic surgeons in Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Brandon Elnekaveh, Dr. Rohan Policherl, and Dr. John Pinnella, uses modern techniques that go beyond skin-level tightening. They work beneath the surface, repositioning the underlying SMAS layer (superficial musculoaponeurotic system) to ensure results that are not only more natural but longer-lasting.
At South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, we are commited in creating facelift surgical plans tailored to your needs, goals, lifestyle, and aesthetic preference to achieve a powerful rejuvenation or a more conservative facial refresh.
At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, we understand that every patient comes with different concerns, aesthetic goals, anatomy, and lifestyles. This becomes the main reason why we’re committed to creating a customized facelift approach to every patient.

For advanced signs of aging in the mid-face, jawline, and neck. Incisions can begin in hairline at or above the temple extend down around the front of the ear and behind the lower part of the ear then back behind the ear and into the hairline.

This is an ideal approach for those patients experiencing mild to moderate signs of aging or sagging skin; patients are usually in their 40s and 50s. Incisions are placed right below or at the temple and extend below and behind the ear to achieve a subtle lift.

This technique is focused on loose skin at the jawline, below the chin, and the neck area. This type of procedure can improve the look of a double chin, vertical banding, or turkey neck. Incisions are placed near the earlobe and extend below and behind the ear; it blends with the hairline and the natural creases of the back of the neck.

Many patients are not ready yet to commit to surgery, and thread lifts are the ideal non-surgical approach. The absorbable barbed sutures are placed under the skin and used to pull the tissue into position. These absorbable threads stimulate collagen production over time.
The SMAS Facelift technique or SMAS Plication is most used at the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery for the excellent results it can provide and the minimal risks it poses compared to other techniques, such as the deep plane facelift. To understand this technique, we must first define the SMAS layer, sitting just below the skin the Superficial Muscular Aponeurotic System or SMAS includes the connective tissue and muscles of the face.
Below the SMAS layer lies another layer of fascia protecting the facial nerve structures. Thus, by keeping the surgical plane within the SMAS layer, the risk of nerve damage is reduced. SMAS Plication allows for dramatic Face and Neck Lift results by lifting and repositioning the connective tissue and muscles of the face without damage to the underlying nerve structures.
A brow or forehead lift is designed to reduce the appearance of wrinkles of the forehead, correct brow position and asymmetry, and improve hooding over upper eyelids. Incisions are strategically placed at the hairline but can also be made at the top of the head to deliver discreet results.
Many patients experience the loss of fat, reducing facial volume, contour, and a generally youthful appearance. Facial fat grafting focuses on using your own fat and, with high-precision techniques, grafting it back into the face to restore volume loss and asymmetry.
Blepharoplasty or eyelid lifts are ideal for patients who are looking to address loose or excess skin around the upper and/or lower eyelids. Incisions are placed near the lash line to ensure discreet and optimal healing, as well as allowing your surgeon to remove the fatty deposits or bags below the eyelids.
Canthopexy is often combined with a blepharoplasty; it is designed to improve the shape of the outer corner of the lower eyelid. This technique is ideal for patients who are looking to tighten the tendon that runs along the lower eyelid.
Direct neck lift is ideal for those who are dealing with extensive skin laxity or vertical banding along the neck. The incision is placed vertically down the neck to allow your surgeon to tighten the muscles and the tissue, delivering proportionate and balanced results.
Chin augmentation focuses on adding more volume, size, and projection of the chin with the use of an implant. Patients experience improvements in the jawline and overall facial proportions. An implant is placed on the existing facial bone, and the incision is made inside the mouth or the chin, making it almost fully invisible.
Submental liposuction involves the removal of excess fat right beneath the chin using liposuction techniques. Your surgeon redefines your jawline and eliminates the look of a double chin with the use of a small cannula.
A facelift, also known as a rhytidectomy, is a cosmetic procedure designed to lift and tighten the facial tissues for those patients who are dealing with sagging skin, deep creases, and loose skin around the jawline and mid-area of the face. Our surgeons use the SMAS technique to target the underlying muscles and tissues to ensure a long-lasting result beyond simple skin tightening.
Ideal candidates are patients who are overall healthy and are dealing with moderate to advanced signs of aging in the lower face and neck. Ideal patients often have good skin elasticity, a good bone structure, and realistic expectations.
A full facelift is designed for those patients who experience moderate sagging and have significant skin laxity. This procedure targets multiple areas, including the midface, jawline, and neck. A mini facelift focuses on early signs of aging or mild skin laxity due to sun exposure, delivering subtle rejuvenation.
A facelift takes around 3-6 hours, and it all depends on the surgical technique chosen by your surgeon and whether it is combined with other procedures. This surgery is performed under general anesthesia to ensure the patient’s comfort and safety.
Most patients experienced swelling, bruising, and tightness around the treated area during the first week. Your surgeon may clear you within 7-10 days to return to light activities and resume your work schedule. Patients who are at their one-month mark start seeing a more visible contour while swelling keeps subsiding. Final results are visible around the 6-8 month mark.
Facelifts can last around 7-10 years, and depending on your skin quality, genetics, lifestyle habits, and skin exposure, your facelift results can be impacted. It is important to know that minor touch-ups will be needed due to the normal aging process. Limiting sun exposure and the use of skincare can help you extend your results even longer.
No, it is important to choose a surgeon who understands your anatomy and uses high-precision techniques like the SMAS to not change your natural structure. Modern facelift techniques focus on repositioning deep facial structure for a soft and natural lift.
To enhance overall results, a facelift is often combined with:
At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, facelift procedures start at $3,999 (anesthesia and surgeon fees not included). Your coordinator will provide your final custom price once your surgery plan is created by your surgeon. Pricing will vary based on the extent of your surgery, chosen technique, and whether you’re combining your procedure with any other surgery.
Most patients who decide to get a facelift procedure are between the ages of 45 and 60, when skin laxity and deeper wrinkles become more visible. However, patients who choose a mini-facelift are in their late 30s or early 40s and experience mild sagging due to sun exposure or hormonal changes.
Initial swelling will subside within 2-3 weeks, allowing you to have a better visual of your final results. However, final swelling will continue to heal around the 3-6 months mark, and are able to see final results within the 6-12 months.
Facelifts are considered very safe when performed by an experienced, board-certified plastic surgeon. That said, as with any surgical procedure, potential complications can include:
Our surgical team takes every precaution to minimize these risks and will provide you with detailed pre- and post-operative instructions to ensure the safest, most successful recovery possible.
While a facelift rejuvenates the lower face by tightening sagging skin, refining the jawline, and lifting the cheeks, a neck lift focuses specifically on the neck and under-chin area. Many patients combine both procedures for a seamless, natural transition between the face and neck. A facelift alone can smooth jowls and deep creases, but pairing it with a neck lift helps eliminate banding, fullness, or lax skin below the jawline. Together, they create a balanced, youthful contour from every angle.
Most patients can safely return to wearing makeup about 10 to 14 days after surgery, once incisions are closed and initial swelling has subsided. It’s important to use clean brushes and gentle, non-comedogenic products to avoid irritation while your skin continues to heal. During the first few weeks, you may want to focus on lightweight, breathable formulas to let the skin recover naturally. Your surgeon will give you personalized guidance on when and how to reintroduce cosmetics safely for the smoothest healing and best results.
