Refine your profile with chin liposuction in Fort Lauderdale

Submental liposuction, also known as chin or neck liposuction, is a procedure designed to remove the stubborn fat cells to create a slimmer and more sculpted face profile. Many patients deal with localized fat beneath the chin, often called “double chin”, which often resists diet and exercise. A well-defined jawline and neck contour can improve your overall appearance.

Factors like genetics, weight fluctuation, or natural aging can cause a double chin. Our expert plastic surgeons in Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Brandon Elnekaveh, Dr. Rohan Policherla, and Dr. Robert Cucin, are committed to refining your natural features by carefully contouring the chin, jawline, and upper neck with high-precision liposuction, restoring a youthful look that feels like you.

Submental liposuction is highly customizable and minimally invasive. This procedure can be done under local anesthesia or can be combined with other procedures like face and neck lift, rhinoplasty, or a blepharoplasty to achieve a more defined facial structure that fits your aesthetic goals.

Your look, your goals — personalized chin liposuction

At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, we’re committed to delivering tailored and personalized submental liposuction surgical plans that fit your needs, unique anatomy, and aesthetic goals.

Whether your main goal is to achieve a slimmer double chin or a shaper and more defined jawline, our team of expert surgeons will examine you and your facial structure, which allows your surgeon to focus on carefully removing excess fat around the chin or neck area while preserving a natural balance and proportion.

Many patients report not only seeing a physical improvement, but an overall boost in their confidence, feeling more aligned with how they feel and present themselves.

The cost of neck or chin liposuction in Fort Lauderdale at the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery starts at $999.00 (not including anesthesia and surgeon fees). Your final personalized quote will be provided by your coordinator once your surgical plan is created. Price can be affected by the extent of your surgery or if you’re combining other procedures to enhance your results and minimize downtime.

We offer flexible financing options through third-party companies with a simple approval process to make your procedure more accessible. Our staff is here to guide you from start to finish to ensure a smooth process and help you make an informed decision.

Chin liposuction vs. neck lift: Which is right for you?

Choosing the correct approach will ensure a more refined jawline and neck that fits your facial structure. Here are the differences:

submental liposuction

Submental Liposuction (Chin/Neck Lipo)

Submental liposuction is ideal for patients who have good skin elasticity and whose main goal is to remove stubborn fat cells under the chin and along the jawline. This technique only requires tiny incisions, and it is minimally invasive. This type of procedure can be done with local anesthesia.

neck lift surgery

Neck Lift Surgery

Neck lift is great for patients who are dealing with excess skin and sagging around the neck area. A neck lift addresses skin laxity, which liposuction alone can’t target or correct. This delivers a more youthful neckline, and it is often combined with submental lipo. This type of technique requires a longer recovery due to the type of incisions, and it is done under general anesthesia.

Kybella nonsurgical option

Kybella (Non-Surgical Option)

This option is great for those who are not ready to undergo surgical treatments. Kybella works for patients who deal with mild to moderate fullness under the skin, but with minimal sagging skin (patient must have good skin elasticity). These injectable solutions help by breaking down the fat cells over time. Patients might need multiple sessions to gradually achieve jawline definition with no surgery or downtime.

How to decide

Understanding your concerns and having realistic expectations can help your surgeon decide the best approach for you. If your main concern is stubborn fat under the chin, submental liposuction might be the best for you; however, if your main concern is sagging skin due to aging to weight fluctuations, a neck lift approach combined with liposuction will deliver the best results for you and your anatomy.

How chin liposuction works

At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, our expert plastic surgeons use two types of techniques: traditional liposuction and power-assisted liposuction (PAL) to help suction and remove the excess fat pockets around the chin area.

Patients who are ideal candidates for submental liposuction often have good skin elasticity and are looking to slim down the neck and chin area without removing any skin. This procedure is done with a small and precise cannula that is inserted through small incisions to suction the fat cells from the treated area.

We understand that this type of procedure also requires precision and attention to detail; this is why our surgeons may use power-assisted liposuction (PAL), a technique that uses vibrations to help break down the fat cells before suctioning them out. This type of technique is less invasive, takes less time, produces less trauma to surrounding tissues, and often leads to a quicker recovery.

Whether your surgeon chooses to perform traditional liposuction or power-assisted, this is a minimally invasive way to achieve a more defined and sharper jawline, and can be done under local anesthesia with sedation.

What about the incisions?

Submental liposuction only requires small incisions to allow the cannula to be inserted in the chin and neck area. These incisions are typically 3-5 mm long and are easy to conceal, making them almost invisible once they heal. Proper post-operative care instructions will be provided to ensure optimal healing and minimal scarring.

Customize your chin liposuction benefits

Eliminate the double chin

By removing the excess fat beneath the chin, submental liposuction helps you achieve a sleeker and more defined profile.

Define the jawline and neck

Submental liposuction sculpts the chin and neck area, creating a sharper jawline look.

Quick recovery, lasting results

If you decide to undergo submental liposuction by itself, your recovery time is lower in comparison to any other cosmetic procedure because it is considered a minimally invasive surgery.

Boost confidence in photos and everyday life

Many patients experience a boost in confidence after their submental liposuction surgery because they are not constantly worrying about unflattering angles or avoiding side-profile pictures.

Natural-looking enhancement

Submental liposuction is designed to maintain and enhance your natural facial structure. It simply removes excess fat, creating a more refined look and balance between your chin, neck, and jawline.

Pairs well with other procedures

This is an excellent procedure to combine with other techniques like a neck lift, facelift, or chin implants to achieve a more complete improvement to their jawline and facial structure.

You’ll also be able to contact your consultant moving forward with any questions or concerns about your surgery.

In order to move forward with your surgery, the surgeon must evaluate your body and your specific goals. Surgery and recovery process

30 - 1 Day Before Surgery

You’ll have your personalized consultation with your surgeon, where your concerns and goals will be evaluated, and your surgery plans will be created. At this stage, you will do any bloodwork, obtain any medical clearance necessary, and take before pictures.

Surgery Day

Submental liposuction is considered a quick procedure and minimally invasive that can be performed under local anesthesia with sedation or general anesthesia, depending on your needs and comfort levels. 3-5 mm incisions are made beneath the chin or behind the ears to suction out the localized fat. This is an outpatient procedure where you’ll be able to go back home the same day, wearing a compression garment to minimize swelling and bruising and support healing.

1 Day Post Op

Your surgeon will recommend prioritizing rest and limiting activities for the next 24-48 hours. Swelling, bruising, and tightness around the area are expected. Most patients feel comfortable returning to light activities after the first 48 hours. You must continue wearing your compression garments to achieve and ensure optimal results.

1 Week Post Op

You will return to our office one week post-op, where your surgeon will monitor your incisions and the progress of your recovery. Most patients get cleared to return to work or social activities.

1 Month Post Op

Swelling and bruising continue to subside, and your new jawline definition becomes more visible. Your surgeon may advise you to continue wearing your compression garment during the night, and you may be cleared to return to low-impact activities and exercise.

2 - 6 Months Post Op

Patients report feeling fully healed around the 3-month mark, and final results become completely visible around the 6-month mark. Patients are now cleared to return to normal activities, exercises, and lifestyle.

Frequently asked chin liposuction questions

What is submental liposuction?

Submental Liposuction, also known as chin or neck lipo, is a cosmetic procedure designed to remove excess fat beneath the chin that causes the appearance of a “double chin”. By removing this excess fat, your surgeon can achieve a slimmer and sharper look around the jawline.

Ideal candidates for a submental liposuction are those who are in overall good health and have good skin elasticity. This procedure ensures the removal of fat cells around the chin area; however, it doesn’t get rid of excess skin.

At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, submental liposuction starts at $999 (anesthesia and surgeon fees are not included). Final pricing will be provided by your coordinator, and it is affected by your surgery plan and whether you’re combining any other procedures.

Small incisions are strategically placed beneath the chin or behind the ears; these incisions are typically 3-5 mm long. Your surgeon might choose between traditional liposuction or power-assisted technology (PAL), which gently removes the excess fat around the jawline and neckline while avoiding trauma to surrounding tissue.

Submental liposuction is considered a minimally invasive and quick procedure; it usually takes less than one hour, and it can be performed with local anesthesia if it’s not combined with any other surgery. This is an outpatient procedure, which means that our patients are able to go home the same day.

The recovery timeline tends to be a little quicker in comparison to other cosmetic procedures. Most patients feel comfortable to return back to work within 3-5 days, swelling and bruising start improving and subsiding over 1-2 weeks. Final results are more visible around the 2-3 month mark.

Yes, however, incisions are extremely small and hidden along the natural creases beneath your chin or behind the ears. Your surgeon will ensure that the incisions made are discreet, and you will be provided with post-operative care to support the healing of your scars.

Submental liposuction removes the fat cells that are located beneath the chin area, and these don’t grow back. However, it is very important to maintain a healthy lifestyle and habits like exercise and a balanced diet to maintain your results long-term.

Yes! Many patients choose to combine this procedure with other surgeries to enhance their final results and achieve their desired aesthetic look. Popular combinations consist of: neck and face lift, rhinoplasty, or chin implants.

Most patients tend to experience swelling, mild discomfort, and tightness around the treated area rather than actual pain. Patients manage their discomfort with prescribed pain medications and tend to subside after the 3rd day post-op.

Submental liposuction is a single surgical procedure that removes the fat cells beneath the chin and neck. Patients experience a short downtime to recover. Kybella is one of our non-surgical options. This injectable dissolves fat cells gradually, and patients might need multiple sessions; however, there is no downtime or recovery time with this option.

Liposuction only targets and suctions out the fat cells in specific areas, in this case, the neck and chin. However, this type of procedure does not target loose or sagging skin. If this is one of your main concerns, your surgeon might suggest having a neck lift and combining it with chin lipo for optimal results.

Yes, our expert plastic surgeons evaluate your anatomy, structure, and concerns during your consultation to create a personalized surgical plan. This allows your surgeon to deliver natural and balanced results that still feel like you.

Many patients report seeing improvements right after surgery; however, keep in mind that swelling and bruising are part of your initial recovery journey. Swelling starts subsiding around the 4-week mark, and final results are revealed around the 3-6 month mark once scars are healed and there’s no more swollen tissue.
