A breast lift, also known as a Mastopexy, is a breast surgery that helps restore the breast tissue by lifting it and reshaping it. Our expert plastic surgeons in Fort Lauderdale, Dr. Brandon Elnekaveh, Dr. Rohan Policherla, and Dr. John Pinella, help women who have gone through certain life events like pregnancy, breastfeeding, weight change, or natural aging, causing their breasts to drop in position and lose skin elasticity.
A breast lift doesn’t really help with changing the size of your breasts, but rather lifts them. Many of our patients’ goals are to revive their natural shape, position, and firmness. This procedure helps women increase their confidence and comfort in their own body, making a change in their daily lifestyle and the fit of any type of clothing.

Breast Lift, or mastopexy, helps to elevate the tissue when removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple-areola. A breast lift can be done with multiple different incisions, and the incision type plays a key part in your personalized surgical plan to achieve the best type of lift for you and keep the scars as subtle as possible.
During your consultation, you will be able to express your concerns, goals, and expectations. With this information, your surgeon will choose the best approach for your needs.
This circular incision goes around the edges of the nipple-areola complex. This technique is recommended for patients with mild sagging and minimal excess skin. This type of scar heals discreetly and allows subtle lifting.
This type of incision contains a circular cut around the areola with a vertical line down the breast fold. This incision is recommended for patients with moderate sagging and mild excess skin. With this approach, the surgeon can achieve a higher elevation for the breast tissue.
This technique combines the periareolar, vertical incision, and a horizontal cut along the breast crease. This type of approach is ideal for patients with extreme sagging or volume loss, delivering the best lift and final reshape
A Mastopexy, or breast lift, is a highly customizable procedure that can be done with or without implants. This is a decision that is made alongside your surgeon. This decision will depend on your goals for shape, volume, and final appearance. Adding implants to your breast lift can help increase or restore a rounder form to your breasts, especially at the top.
A breast lift alone will not add volume or change your cup size; this is a procedure to elevate and bring back firmness to the breast tissue when removing excess skin. Many patients feel that their breasts have gone down in size, even in cases where no skin is removed. Lifting the tissue can create a more compact shape, which can also downsize your bra cup.
Commonly, patients with only a breast lift find that bras fit differently, not because of a size change, but because of where their breasts are now positioned.
If one of your goals is to maintain or increase volume/size, our team will recommend including implants in your procedure. If your only goal is to restore firmness and elevate the breast tissue, you can be a candidate for a breast lift without implants.
A breast lift by itself is a procedure that helps raise, reshape, and re-firm the breast by removing any type of excess skin that might be causing sagging. This option is ideal if you’re comfortable with your current size and have no extreme volume loss.
Patients with adequate natural volume who want perkier, more lifted breasts without adding size.
A more youthful, elevated contour without increased fullness.
Adding implants is a great option for patients who are also looking to restore volume or to increase/ change their cup size. Combining both techniques delivers a fuller and rounder look at the top of the breast.
Patients who have lost volume after pregnancy, weight loss, or aging, and want both a lift and added size or roundness.
A lifted, fuller, and more rounded breast shape with enhanced cleavage.
Some patients decide to remove their implants after many years, sometimes depending on the size. This can cause sagginess, and a breast lift might be needed. Some patients like the fullness of an implant, but after removing it, they might choose to create that rounder look with fat grafting.
Patients removing implants who want to restore a natural, proportionate breast shape after volume loss.
A more youthful, lifted breast appearance that complements your natural body proportions.
If you’re thinking about a breast lift, your surgeon might suggest an internal mesh bra, which provides support without adding any type of volume. An internal mesh bra is fully dissolvable to reinforce the breast tissue from within, helping maintain the lift long term without the need for implants.
Having multiple options can feel overwhelming, but our team of expert surgeons will help you determine which approach is the best for you, your goals, body, and anatomy. We have a solution for you, whether you want to enhance size, simply lift, or restore the breast shape after an explant. We will create the best surgical plan to deliver the best results.
A breast lift procedure helps with repositioning the breast tissue higher on the chest, along with restoring the firmness of the skin. This creates a more youthful result.
Sagging can cause the nipple to stretch and point downwards. With a breast lift, the areola can be repositioned and reconstructed to a size that fits your new breast contour.
Before a breast lift, some patients may find discomfort wearing certain types of clothing, especially bras, swimsuits, and form-fitting tops. This helps you restore that comfort while staying away from structural support from bras.
With time or life events, the skin will lose skin elasticity, which can lead to breast ptosis, or better known as sagging. A breast lift will directly address this concern when removing the excess skin and being able to reshape the breast mound for a firmer appearance.
A breast lift can help those patients who are already comfortable with their breast size. This procedure can help reposition existing tissue without the need to add any implants. Many patients can go back to the shape they have always loved.
A breast lift is not only physical, but it is also a procedure that can help boost confidence in the patient’s body. Many patients report more confidence, comfort, and overall happiness with their new contour.

30 - 1 Day Before Surgery
Our pre-operative team will help you set up a personalized consultation, before pictures, bloodwork, and every detail needed to make sure you’re clear to undergo surgery. This is the perfect time to ask questions and be as informed as possible.
Surgery Day
Breast Lift surgery takes around 2-3 hours and is performed under general anesthesia, no exceptions. At our center, this procedure is an outpatient surgery, allowing patients to return home after they’re fully awake. Patients return home with a post-op bra that will provide support and help with the shape of their new breasts. Post-op will provide detailed instructions before discharge.
1 Day Post Op
Rest should be your number one priority, limiting any type of upper-body movement. Swelling, bruising, and tightness around the treated area (chest) are common. You have to continue wearing the surgical post-op bra to help with the healing, support, and new position.
1 Week Post Op
You will come into the office for your post-op appointment, our nurses and surgeon will check that your incisions are healing correctly, and monitor the area. You will feel more comfortable with mild movement, but it is still recommended to limit strenuous upper-body movement.
1 Month Post Op
Inflammation will continue to drop, and you’ll start to have a better feel of how your new breast shape is adjusting and healing. Many patients are now clear to go back to non-strenuous activities and low-impact exercise. It is still important to keep wearing your post-op bra for support during this stage of recovery.
2-12 Months Post Op
During this final step of recovery, your breasts will continue to adjust into their final shape and form, and swelling will go away completely during this stage. Post op will provide proper care to make sure your incisions fade gradually. You will feel fully recovered between the 3-6 months mark and be able to see final results by 6-12 months.

A breast lift, or mastopexy, is a surgical procedure that lifts, reshapes, and firms the breasts by removing excess skin and repositioning the nipple and breast tissue. The goal is to restore a more youthful, elevated contour that complements your natural proportions. It’s ideal for correcting sagging caused by aging, pregnancy, or weight changes. The result is a perkier, smoother silhouette that looks natural both in and out of clothing.
You may be a strong candidate if you have drooping breasts, stretched skin, or nipples that point downward. Good mastopexy candidates are in overall good health, maintain a stable weight, and have realistic expectations about their results. A breast lift is especially beneficial after pregnancy or weight loss, when breast tissue loses firmness and elasticity. During your consultation, your surgeon will assess your anatomy and discuss whether a lift alone—or a lift combined with implants—will best achieve your goals.
A breast lift primarily reshapes and elevates the existing tissue rather than increasing size. Some patients notice a slightly smaller cup size afterward due to the removal of stretched skin and improved firmness. If you’d like more volume or upper-pole fullness, your surgeon may recommend combining your lift with breast implants or fat transfer. This combination can enhance projection while maintaining the lifted, natural contour.
Yes! Many women choose a breast lift without implants when they’re satisfied with their natural volume but want a more youthful position and improved firmness. This option provides a beautifully refreshed look without adding size. Your surgeon can tailor the lift to your anatomy and goals—whether you prefer a subtle, natural enhancement or more dramatic repositioning. The results can restore balance and symmetry while maintaining your natural shape.
A breast lift repositions and reshapes the existing tissue to correct sagging, while breast augmentation adds volume using implants or fat transfer. Many patients choose to combine both procedures to lift and enhance fullness at the same time. This approach provides a more comprehensive transformation—especially if the breasts have both volume loss and drooping. Your surgeon will help you determine whether a lift, augmentation, or both will achieve your ideal outcome.
Scars depend on the incision pattern used, which can be donut, lollipop, or anchor-shaped depending on your level of sagging. While scars are permanent, they typically fade significantly over time and are placed carefully to remain discreet under bras and swimsuits. Your breast lift surgeon will provide detailed scar-care instructions to support healing and minimize visibility. With proper care, most patients find that scars become thin and barely noticeable within a year.
A breast lift usually takes two to three hours, depending on the technique used and whether additional procedures are performed. It’s typically an outpatient procedure, meaning you’ll return home the same day. During surgery, your surgeon will reshape the breast tissue, remove excess skin, and elevate the nipple-areola complex to a higher, natural position. The focus is always on creating proportionate, symmetrical, and long-lasting results.
Most patients return to light daily activities within one to two weeks, though exercise and heavy lifting should be avoided for about four to six weeks. Mild swelling and tightness are normal and gradually subside over several months. You’ll wear a supportive post-surgical bra to help the breasts heal in their new position. Final results continue to refine over three to six months as the tissues settle into a natural contour.
Temporary changes in nipple sensation are common during recovery, as nerves adjust after repositioning. Most patients notice gradual improvement within a few weeks to months. Permanent loss of sensation is rare but can occur, particularly with more extensive lifts or significant repositioning. Choosing an experienced mastopexy surgeon and following post-operative care guidelines greatly reduces this risk.
Breastfeeding after a breast lift is often possible, but it depends on the surgical technique and how much tissue is repositioned. If future breastfeeding is important to you, your surgeon can plan incisions that preserve milk ducts and glandular tissue. It’s best to complete your family before undergoing a lift, as future pregnancies can stretch the skin and affect results. Always discuss your long-term plans with your provider during consultation.
Results from a breast lift are long-lasting, especially if you maintain a stable weight and healthy lifestyle. While natural aging and gravity continue to affect all breasts over time, most patients enjoy their lifted, youthful contours for 10 years or longer. Supportive bras, good posture, and proper skin care can help prolong your results. Some patients choose a touch-up or combine future procedures to maintain their preferred look.
Yes — a breast lift can significantly improve breast symmetry by reshaping each breast individually and repositioning the nipples for a more balanced, harmonious look. Many women naturally have slight differences in breast size or position, which a lift can refine. For more pronounced asymmetry, your surgeon may recommend combining the lift with implants or fat transfer to create a perfect match. The goal is always a proportionate, natural-looking outcome.
At the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery, breast lift procedures start at $2,999 (excluding anesthesia and surgeon fees). The final cost depends on the level of correction needed, whether implants or fat transfer are added, and your personalized surgical plan. During your consultation, you’ll receive a detailed quote and guidance on financing options to make your transformation attainable.
Absolutely! A breast lift can be combined with breast augmentation, breast reduction, or body-contouring procedures like liposuction or a tummy tuck for a full-body transformation. Combining surgeries allows for a more balanced silhouette and a single recovery period. However, for safety reasons, a breast lift cannot be combined with a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL), since the recovery positions conflict. Your surgeon will design a safe, customized plan to achieve your aesthetic goals.
An internal bra uses an absorbable surgical mesh, such as DuraSorb®, to reinforce breast tissue from within after a lift. This mesh acts like an invisible support structure, helping maintain the breast’s new shape, preventing early sagging, and reducing tension on the incision line. Over time, the material is safely absorbed by the body, leaving behind your own strengthened collagen support. Surgeons often recommend it for patients with thinner skin, larger breasts, or previous surgeries who want longer-lasting, more elevated results.
