Liposuction is a surgical procedure that removes stubborn fat deposits that resist diet and exercise. It can target multiple areas of the body, including the abdomen, arms, thighs, chin, back, and flanks, to create a smoother, more contoured shape.
At South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery in Miami, FL, liposuction is performed by Dr. Rohan Policherla and Dr. Robert Cucin — both experienced plastic surgeons who customize each procedure to enhance your natural shape without affecting surrounding tissue. Patients often combine liposuction across multiple areas or pair it with other procedures for more comprehensive results.
Liposuction at South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery is led by Dr. Rohan Policherla, and Dr. John Pinnella, plastic surgeons focused on delivering natural, proportional results tailored to each patient’s anatomy.

The procedure is designed to enhance your natural frame and proportions, not change them.
In Florida, current medical guidelines set by the Florida Board of Medicine allow up to 4,000 cc (4 liters) of fat to be safely removed in a single liposuction procedure. Your surgeon will build a plan within these guidelines to maximize results while keeping safety the top priority.
Liposuction at South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery starts at $3,598 (anesthesia and surgeon fees not included). Final pricing depends on your surgical plan — including the number of areas treated and procedure complexity. Your patient coordinator will provide a personalized quote and walk you through next steps.

Liposuction removes excess fat that can affect certain movements. From working out to sports to walking. Liposuction can allow you to move more freely.
With extra fat in your body, it's normal that folds get created. These areas are prone to irritation, chafing, and discomfort. Liposuction removes the extra fat pockets and friction in these areas.
Most Miami patients feel a boost in comfort and confidence when wearing their favorite clothes. Jeans, dresses, and certain tops fit more comfortably, and you can explore your new style with your new silhouette.
Liposuction will make a change in your physical appearance but will also improve your mental confidence. This type of procedure aligns your style with your body. Our patients in Miami feel strong, confident, and in control of their own bodies.
Liposuction uses small, discreet incisions made with a cannula. Our surgeons strategically place each incision so it can be easily hidden under clothing and swimwear. Incision placement is based on the treatment area, skin elasticity, and your goals.
Small incisions are placed along the natural creases of the lower abdomen, bikini line, or belly button. For the flanks, incisions are made near the hip bone or lower back to access surrounding fat deposits.
For the inner thighs, incisions are placed in the groin crease. For the outer thighs, they are positioned near the buttock fold or outer hip. This placement allows the surgeon to reach fat pockets while maintaining a smooth contour.
Incisions are placed in the armpit or near the elbow crease. This provides full access to the upper arm while keeping scars hidden.
Incisions are placed along the bra line or natural back folds. This provides access to the treatment area while keeping scars discreet and well-hidden.
For the hip area, incisions are made around the lower back and upper thigh crease. For the buttocks, small incisions are placed just beneath the curve to preserve the patient's natural shape.
Incisions are made beneath the chin or behind the ears to keep them hidden from view. These placements give your surgeon access to the jawline and neckline for fat removal.
All liposuction incisions are designed to be discreet and easily concealed. After surgery, you will receive detailed post-operative instructions to support recovery and help scars fade over time.
Liposuction is not a weight-loss procedure. It is a body contouring tool designed to remove stubborn, localized fat. Both approaches reduce body fat, but they work differently and produce different results.
Weight loss occurs when the body burns more energy than it consumes. It reduces fat gradually through diet, exercise, and time — affecting both fat and muscle. However, weight loss can leave behind loose skin or stubborn fat pockets that don't respond to lifestyle changes alone.
Liposuction surgically removes targeted fat deposits to sculpt and reshape specific areas of the body. It changes body contour, not the number on the scale. Most patients lose only a few pounds after liposuction — the visible difference is in shape, not weight.
Yes — but a high BMI can affect your candidacy, surgical plan, and results. Our plastic surgeons in Miami evaluate more than just BMI when determining if liposuction is right for you.
Many patients begin with weight loss first, then pursue liposuction at South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery to address remaining stubborn fat. Our surgeons will create an action plan to help you achieve the best possible results.

30 - 1 Day Before Surgery
You will have a virtual consultation with one of our plastic surgeons to discuss your goals and create your surgical plan. Pre-operative paperwork, photos, bloodwork, and any required testing will be completed before your surgery date.
Surgery Day
Liposuction takes between 1–3 hours and is typically performed under general anesthesia. Some patients may qualify for local anesthesia with sedation depending on the scope of the procedure. This is an outpatient surgery — you go home the same day with compression garments to support recovery.
1 Day Post Op
Rest is the priority for the first 24–48 hours. Swelling, bruising, and soreness are normal. Continue wearing your compression garment to support skin adherence and avoid strenuous activity.
1 Week Post Op
Most patients feel more comfortable and mobile. Avoid strenuous activities and continue wearing your compression garment. You will return to our office for a follow-up visit so your surgeon can monitor healing.
1 Month Post Op
Swelling continues to decrease and your results become more visible. Your surgeon may recommend light walking and gentle movement to support lymphatic drainage. High-impact activities are still restricted.
2 - 3 Months Post Op
Most patients are cleared to return to all regular activities, including intense exercise and workouts. Visible swelling is gone and your sculpted results become more defined.
3 - 12 Months Post Op
Any remaining swelling is fully resolved and incision scars continue to fade. Final results are fully visible. Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is important to preserve your results long-term.

I recently had a breast reduction, lift and liposuction performed by Dr. Brandon Elnekaveh, and I truly cannot say enough good things about the experience. From the very first consultation to my post-op care, Dr. Elnekaveh was incredibly kind, patient, and attentive. He answered all of my questions thoroughly and made me feel completely at ease every step of the way.
Not only is he a gifted surgeon, but he genuinely cares about his patients. His bedside manner is warm and reassuring, and he takes the time to explain everything in a way that’s easy to understand. The results of my surgery are absolutely amazing — better than I could have ever imagined — and I’m beyond grateful to have had him as my doctor.
If you’re considering cosmetic surgery and want someone who is both highly skilled and compassionate, I wholeheartedly recommend Dr. Elnekaveh. He’s truly one of a kind.

Liposuction is a procedure that removes localized fat from areas that are non-responsive to diet, exercise, and an overall healthy lifestyle. It involves inserting a small cannula to suction out the fat pockets in the body. This procedure is typically done under general anesthesia and is not considered a weight-loss treatment but a procedure that helps eliminate stubborn fat.
Liposuction is a customizable procedure that can treat multiple areas at once or a single area, depending on the patient’s goals, anatomy, and aesthetic vision. Liposuction can treat areas like: abdomen, flanks, thighs, arms, buttocks, neck, chin, etc. These areas tend to accumulate extra stubborn fat that is harder to eliminate with just exercise.
Liposuction is a great procedure for patients who already maintain a healthy lifestyle and are closer to their desired weight. This might not be your ideal procedure if you’re looking to remove excess skin or you’re trying to lose weight. Many of our patients report a small drop in weight after liposuction, but they can reveal a more sculpted silhouette.
Weight loss is achieved when someone is spending more energy than they are consuming, which often leads to losing pounds. This is achieved with diet, exercise, and an overall healthy lifestyle. Liposuction helps to remove stubborn fat in localized areas that are non-responsive to diets and workouts.
In Florida, medical guidelines only allow 4,000 cc (or 4 liters) of fat to be removed in a single liposuction procedure. This limit is set by the Florida Board of Medicine. This guideline was created to ensure the patient’s safety and ideal recovery during and after surgery.
Some patients see a small drop in weight; however, liposuction is not designed to cause weight loss. During your virtual consultation, your surgeon will create a personalized action plan in case you need to lose weight first and then get a liposuction procedure.
Traditional liposuction can be used to target different areas, not just the midsection. This procedure is designed to target stubborn fat around the abdomen, arms, thighs, chin, lower back, etc. Liposuction 360, on the other hand, focuses on sculpting an hourglass figure, treating the midarea circumferentially, and removing excess fat from the abdomen, back, flanks, and waist.
Most patients will require an entire week (5-7 days) to be able to return to work and very light activities without discomfort. Patients can go back to normal activities around the 6-9 week mark and start seeing final results around the 3-6 month mark, where final swelling is gone.
Yes—Liposuction can remove and suction out the excess fat pockets from certain areas of the body; however, to be able to maintain a visible result, a healthy lifestyle is needed, which includes a well-balanced diet and exercise.
When one of our expert Liposuction surgeons evaluates you, one of the things they will take into consideration to approve you for surgery is skin elasticity. This plays a big role in your candidacy. Depending on the health of your tissue, liposuction doesn’t leave any loose skin after the procedure. However, if your skin elasticity is not in great condition, you might be a great candidate for a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty).
Some patients may qualify to get liposuction under local anesthesia, but it has to be their first time having this type of procedure, they must be in excellent health, and it is only accepted if they are treating a small area or the amount of fat removed is minimal.
BMI is not the only thing our surgeons take into consideration; however, this may limit your options. A high BMI can affect your candidacy, surgical plan, and expectations, and you might need to combine liposuction with another procedure to be able to achieve your aesthetic vision.
You will be able to see noticeable results around 3-6 weeks; however, swelling gradually fades, and a healthy diet, light activity, and proper drainage help with the process. The final result is fully visible around the 6-12 month mark.
We offer Liposuction procedures starting at $3,598 (anesthesia and surgeon fees are not included). Final pricing will depend on your final surgical plan and the amount of fat removed, and the number of areas treated. The South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery offers flexible financing, and your consultant can help you with the process to make your transformation more accessible.
Liposuction does not tighten abdominal muscles or repair muscle separation. It focuses only on fat removal. If abdominal muscle laxity is present, a tummy tuck may be more appropriate. Your surgeon will recommend the best solution.
Patients who have lost significant weight may benefit from liposuction, but loose skin is often a concern. In many cases, combining liposuction with skin removal procedures produces better outcomes. Each case is unique and evaluated individually.
In some cases, revision or additional contouring can be performed. However, optimal planning usually achieves desired results in one procedure. Maintaining a stable weight reduces the need for future treatments. Revision decisions are made carefully.
Liposuction is not designed to treat cellulite directly. In fact, if cellulite or skin laxity is already present, fat removal alone may make it more noticeable. Some patients may benefit from combining liposuction with skin-tightening or cellulite treatments. Your surgeon will guide you toward the best approach for smooth contours.
Compression garments are typically worn for four to six weeks after surgery. They help control swelling, improve comfort, and support skin retraction. Wearing your garment as directed is essential for achieving smooth, even results. Your surgeon may adjust the timeline based on your progress.
Lymphatic drainage massages are often recommended to reduce swelling and improve comfort during liposuction recovery. These treatments can help speed up the healing process and promote smoother results. While not mandatory, many patients find them beneficial. Your surgeon will advise whether they’re appropriate for you.
Liposuction removes fat, while a tummy tuck addresses loose skin and muscle separation. Many patients confuse the two. If skin laxity or diastasis recti is present, liposuction alone may not provide the desired result. Your surgeon will evaluate your anatomy and explain which option — or combination — makes the most sense.
