A lower body lift, or belt lipectomy, is a procedure designed to remove sagging skin, tighten the underlying tissue and muscles, and create a more contoured silhouette and mid-area. This type of procedure targets multiple areas of concern at once, most commonly the abdomen, flanks, lower back, buttocks, and outer thighs. This is an all-in-one approach, and it is more invasive than other body contouring procedures, so its is highly important that patients are in good health, and have the time and flexibility to support a longer recovery period.
This procedure is ideal for those patients who deal with excess skin and weakened tissue across multiple areas of the body due to major weight loss, pregnancy, or the natural aging process. This procedure focuses on refining your body’s proportions, restore firmnes, and eliminating the loose skin that diet and exercise alone cannot improve.
Our team of expert surgeons is committed to creating a highly customizable procedure tailored to your anatomy, goals, and lifestyle. Whether you’re looking for the final step to complete your weight loss journey or feel more comfortable and confident in your body and everyday life, a body lift procedure might be ideal for you.

Our experienced plastic surgeons will tailor your surgical plan to suit your anatomy and priorities, whether you’re seeking to remove excess skin after weight loss, tighten the muscles around the midsection area, or improve your overall silhouette. A body lift is not only ideal to complete your body transformation after major weight loss, but it also renews our patients’ confidence and allows them to move more freely. This procedure is a powerful way to reclaim your body on your own terms.
The cost of a body lift at the South Florida Center starts at $3,999 (not including anesthesia and surgeon fees). Your coordinator will provide your final personalized quote, which will vary depending on the extent of your case and how many areas will be treated at once.
The South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery is committed to supporting your goals, and this is why your consultant will walk you through our flexible financing options with an easy and quick application process. Our team is here to help you from beginning to end, ensuring you make an informed decision.
A lower body lift or belt lipectomy is a highly customizable procedure designed to improve skin firmness, contour, and repair underlying tissue in several areas of the body. This procedure is highly common for those patients who go through significant weight loss or pregnancy. Depending on the complexity of your case, goals, and anatomy, your surgeon will create a tailored approach to lift and refine specific areas, using strategic incisions to minimize visible scarring.
A central focus of the body lift is the abdominal region, where excess skin is removed and the underlying tissue is tightened to create a smoother, flatter contour.
A horizontal incision is made low on the abdomen, often running from hip to hip and positioned below the bikini line for maximum concealment.
Loose skin around the outer thighs and flanks can be lifted and tightened to enhance lower body shape and reduce drooping.
The same incision used for the abdominal contouring typically extends around the sides of the body to allow access to the outer thighs and hip area.
Sagging or deflated tissue in the buttocks—common after major weight loss—can be lifted for a firmer, more youthful appearance.
The incision continues around the back, just above the buttocks, allowing for both lift and contouring. In some cases, this is referred to as a circumferential body lift.
A body lift can also help smooth and reshape the lower back, reducing skin folds or bulges that impact contour in the rear torso.
Incorporated into the same circumferential incision, running above the buttocks and blending into the hip area.
Some patients benefit from lifting the mons pubis area for improved comfort and appearance, especially following significant skin laxity.
This is addressed through the same lower abdominal incision, depending on the degree of tissue involvement.
Removing excess skin and tightening the underlying tissue during a body lift, patients experience a smoother and more defined silhouette, including areas like the abdomen, hips, buttocks, and thighs.
A body lift can help patients expand their wardrobe, feeling more comfortable with how their clothes fit, especially around the waistline, hips, and thighs. Patients notice a huge improvement when wearing fitted pieces, swimsuits, and styles that were previously difficult to enjoy.
Removing excess skin and tightening the underlying tissues and muscles can help patients to enjoy a more balanced and proportionate silhouette. Our expert surgeons will remove skin with precision to redefine your body structure.
For many patients, a body lift might be the last step to complete their weight loss transformation. Removing excess skin and tightening the underlying muscles can help you see the underneath contours that you’ve worked so hard towards.
A body lift is a transformative procedure that helps to boost your confidence and self-esteem. Patients feel more comfortable during daily activities and more connected to their new body after surgery.

30 - 1 día antes de la intervención
You’ll have a consultation with your surgeon to finalize your surgical plan and answer any questions you may have. Our pre-operative team will ensure you finish all of your bloodwork, obtain any necessary medical clearance if needed, and take before pictures for your patient’s chart to get you ready for surgey day.
Día de la cirugía
Body lift surgery takes around 4-6 hours and is done under general anesthesia to ensure the patient's comfort and safety. The number of hours depends on the extent of your case and the areas being addressed. This is an outpatient procedure where you’ll return home the same day, wearing your post-surgical garments to help reduce swelling and support circulation and healing.
1 día postoperatorio
It is important to prioritize rest and limit movement for the first 24-72 hours. Swelling, bruising, and soreness are expected around the surgical areas. Our post-op team will provide detailed instructions on managing and caring for drains (If placed), wound care, medications, and how to move comfortably and safely during the first stage of recovery.
1 semana postoperatoria
You’ll return to our office one week post-op, and your surgeon will check and examine the incision areas and how your healing is progressing. During this visit, your drains will be removed (if any). Most patients begin feeling more mobile around this stage, but physical activity should remain very limited, especially any movements that can cause extra pressure, such as bending, lifting, or stretching.
1 mes postoperatorio
You’ll notice how swelling begins to improve, and you will start noticing early signs of your new contours. Many patients are cleared to resume light activities and return to any desk job. It is important to continue avoiding any strenuous activities and continue wearing your compression garments to guarantee a smooth result.
2 - 12 meses después de la operación
During this stage of recovery, your body will continue to heal, and incisions start to gradually fade over time. Many patients are now cleared to return to low-impact exercises. However, it is important to keep avoiding heavy lifting, HIIT workouts, and core-heavy movements.
6 - 12 Months Post Op
This procedure requires a longer recovery period, which is why during this final stage, is when you’ll enjoy your final results and new silhouette. Your skin is finally settling into your new contours, and most patients feel fully healed and can enjoy the long-term benefits of their transformations, both physically and emotionally.

A body lift, also known as a lower body lift or belt lipectomy, is a comprehensive all-in-one procedure that focuses on removing excess, loose skin and tightening the underlying tissues and muscles to create a firmer and smoother silhouette. This type of procedure is common after significant weight loss, pregnancy, or major body changes. This procedure targets concerns in areas like the abdomen, flanks, lower back, buttocks, and thighs. This is not a weight loss procedure, but it helps to improve comfort, mobility, and body confidence.
Ideal patients for a body lift are those who have experienced significant weight loss and are left with excess, sagging skin that can be treated with exercise and diet alone. Patients must be in good health. This procedure is considered more invasive than other body contouring surgeries, which is why it is necessary to have the flexibility to recover for a longer period of time. During your consultation, your surgeon will examine your medical history, skin elasticity, and goals to determine candidacy.
This all-in-one procedure treats multiple areas of the lower body in a single procedure. These areas include the abdomen, waistline, flanks, lower back, buttocks, and outer thighs. Depending on your evaluation and candidacy, your surgeon may suggest adding the upper thighs or the groin area. This is a highly customizable procedure that results in a more balanced and firmer lower body silhouette.
A tummy tuck is designed to treat only the frontal side of the abdomen, removing excess skin and tightening the abdominal muscles to create a smoother mid-area. On the other hand, a body lift treats multiple areas around the entire lower torso, addressing loose and sagging skin, not only from the abdomen, but side and back of the body, often including the buttocks and outer thighs, which a tummy tuck does not treat. This procedure provides a more comprehensive transformation, but it also requires a longer recovery period than a tummy tuck. Your surgeon will recommend the best approach depending on your needs, goals, and skin laxity.
Yes, a body lift requires longer incisions to remove a larger amount of excess, loose skin. These incisions are strategically placed in areas like the lower part of your torso so they can be easily hidden beneath swimwear and underwear, making them very discreet. Our post-op team will provide scar care instructions to optimize healing over time. Many patients are not affected by the incisions due to the major improvement in their new body contour.
Due to the extent of a body lift, recovery may be longer in comparison to other body contouring procedures. Most patients need around 2-4 weeks before returning to work, depending on the job demands and healing progress. Light activities are recommended after a few weeks to improve circulation and healing; however, more strenuous activities may require 8 weeks or longer. This procedure may cause more trauma internally, so this means you will be able to enjoy the final results and mobility after several months as your body heals entirely.
Drains depend entirely on the extent of your surgery and the number of areas treated, but it is very common that they’re used to help prevent fluid buildup during early healing. These drains reduce the risk of complications such as seromas and hematomas. These temporary drains are removed during your one-week post-op appointment. When leaving the day of surgery, your surgeon and post-op team will provide detailed instructions to take care of the drains at home.
Yes, a body lift is often combined with other procedures, but it is based on your surgeon’s approval and evaluation. Common combinations include an arm lift, breast lift, breast reduction, or liposuction. Choosing which procedures to add to your body lift depends on your recovery. We want to avoid anything that will interfere with your overall healing process. It is important to do a virtual consultation with your surgeon to determine and create a surgical plan that is tailored to your needs and safety.
Results from a body lift are considered permanent, especially when patients maintain a stable weight and an active and healthy lifestyle. When removing the excess skin, it doesn’t come back. However, natural aging and future weight fluctuations can still affect skin elasticity over time. Many patients enjoy the benefits of a body lift for years. This procedure is considered a durable solution for extreme weight loss and skin laxity.
A body lift is performed under general anesthesia, which ensures the patient’s safety and comfort. This is a highly comprehensive procedure that involves multiple areas, and using general anesthesia allows the surgeon to work with precision and efficiency. This is an outpatient procedure. Once you’re stable and awake, you’ll return home to rest wearing a compression garment to support your new contour and healing, and your post-op instructions.
A body lift is not a weight-loss procedure. It is normal to notice a drop in total weight once the excess, loose skin is removed; the scale shouldn’t determine how successful your procedure was. Many patients experience a drastic change in in meausuraments, making them feel more comfortable wearing a certain type of clothing in their everyday lives. A body lift should be the last step of your weight loss journey. This is a contouring procedure, not a treatment to drop several pounds.
Any surgical procedure carries potential risks. A body lift may include bleeding, infection, fluid accumulation, delayed wound healing, and scarring. This is highly extensive surgery, and recovery may be longer in comparison to any other body contouring treatments, which makes it extremely important to adhere to post-op instructions.
Depending on the incision areas, you will receive personalized instructions on how to sleep comfortably. Most patients are advised to sleep slightly elevated, or on their side, to avoid putting pressure on the incision areas. Our post-op team may recommend getting a pillow or wedge support to help you maintain a safe and comfortable position during rest. Sleeping in the right position can help you reduce swelling and protect your results.
