Is There Anything I Can Do To Prolong My Facelift Results?

If you are considering investing your time and money into facelift surgery, you are probably curious about how long the results will last, and whether there is anything you can do to prolong the effects of surgery. Great news — there are a few things you can do to enjoy your facelift results for many years to come! In this blog post, the team at the South Florida Center for Cosmetic Surgery shares our best tips.

Select the Right Surgeon

Working with a qualified and experienced plastic surgeon (like those on our team!) is one of the most important factors in how natural your facelift results look and how long they last. Look for an elite surgeon that: a) has formal surgical training; b) is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery; and c) stays up-to-date through membership to prestigious plastic surgery organizations. Ask to see before-and-after photographs of their work to get a sense of what they can do.

Stay Out of the Sun or Use Protection

Unprotected sun exposure can accelerate the aging process, cause the newly tightened tissues to lose elasticity and lead to wrinkly or sagging skin. To prevent sun-related damage, be diligent about wearing sunscreen, sunglasses and a wide-brimmed hat when outdoors. This is especially important in a climate like South Florida!

Avoid Smoking and Excessive Drinking

People that smoke or drink excessively tend to age quicker than those that don’t. You will be asked to quit smoking (and drinking excessively) prior to your surgery, and we strongly suggest that you refrain from resuming these habits after your recovery.

Maintain Your Weight

Fluctuating in weight can stretch out the facial tissues to the point where they lose their elastic quality and sag or droop. A few pounds here and there should not matter, but substantial weight fluctuation can have poor consequences. Try to maintain your weight through regular exercise, a healthy diet and portion control.

Ask About Skincare and Laser or Light Treatments

Talk to your surgical team about products or treatments to complement your facelift. They may recommend a medical-grade skincare line or a non-surgical laser or light treatment that has been shown to help keep skin firm and smooth.
